We're looking for a Senior Database Administrator to join a strategic infrastructure transformation project for a large US insurance group. The client is establishing a new independent business entity and building its entire infrastructure from scratch. The core objective is a large-scale Lift & Shift migration of enterprise-grade .NET / IIS / SQL Server applications from on-premise data centers into Microsoft Azure IaaS. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and supporting a highly available SQL Server environment across on-prem and Azure, ensuring performance and security.

Major responsibilities:

  • Install and configure SQL Server instances in clustered environments and manage Always-On Availability Groups across data centers
  • Troubleshoot and resolve cluster-related issues (WSFC failures, failovers, secondary node issues)
  • Implement and manage database maintenance tasks to ensure optimal SQL Server performance
  • Provide performance tuning recommendations and guidance to development teams regarding database schemas and deployment pipelines
  • Collaborate with Systems, DevOps, and Network teams to support database-related initiatives
  • Manage database object changes in accordance with Software Change Management processes
  • Monitor the SQL Server environment using third-party and in-house software
  • Handle day-to-day ServiceNow requests, including provisioning, security changes, and backup/restore operations
  • Support SQL solutions across on-premises and Azure environments, including PostgreSQL
  • Ensure database security standards and disaster recovery requirements are consistently met
  • Support non-relational databases such as MongoDB, Cosmos DB, and Redis
  • Participate in patching activities and provide on-call support during off-hours, month-end cycles, or major incidents
  • Collaborate with the data engineering team to improve data warehouse performance, SSAS cubes, and Power BI datasets
  • Support ETL toolsets, including SQL Server Integration Services and Astera Centerprise
  • Monitor and optimize query performance and data workflows within Azure Synapse Analytics.

 

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server (2016/2019/2022) & expertise with both on-prem and Azure cloud-based instances including work with Always-On Availability Group, Backup and Recovery, SQL query optimization
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology
  • Deep knowledge of SQL Server internals and the ability to analyze execution plans and identify performance bottlenecks using Query Store (QDS)
  • Strong ability to analyze SQL Server performance metrics (CPU, memory, disk I/O, network).
  • Experience with additional DBMS such as PostgreSQL and MongoDB
  • Experience working with monitoring tools such as Quest Foglight, SolarWinds DP/SQL Diagnostic Manager, or similar platforms
  • English level B2 or higher

 

Nice to have:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field
  • Microsoft SQL Server certifications (e.g., Azure DP-300) or ITIL certification
  • Understanding of relational and non-relational database technologies across on-premises and cloud environments (Azure, AWS, GCP), including their use cases and trade-offs
  • Experience designing end-to-end analytics solutions in Azure Synapse, including data pipeline orchestration and loading into Synapse dedicated SQL pools
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Flows, Azure Functions, and Databricks
  • Experience with logical and physical data modeling.
